چکیده

Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) caused by nonpenetrating trauma of the chest is rare. It has been seen more frequently in recent years, presumably because of the increase in automobile accidents and the availability of better diagnostic facilities. Since the first description by Williams in 1829, 31 cases have been reported, but surgical or necropsy proof of the condition was obtained in 23 only.1-"1 In 10 cases the cause was rupture of papillary muscles; in the remainder it was rupture of the chordae tendineae or laceration of the valve leaflets. Associated tear of the pericardium was reported in three cases. TR caused by rupture of the papillary muscles is the most severe variety.7 10 12 We report here a case of isolated TR caused by rupture of the anterior papillary muscle after blunt chest trauma. Partial agenesis or, less probably, tearing of the pericardium and herniation of the right ventricle were also found at the time of operation.

A Case of Traumatic Tricuspid Regurgitation Caused by Multiple Papillary Muscle Rupture

Traumatic tricuspid regurgitation is a rare complication of blunt chest trauma. With the increase in the number of automobile accidents, traumatic tricuspid regurgitation has become an important problem after blunt chest trauma. It has been reported more frequently because of better diagnostic procedures and a better understanding of the pathology. The early diagnosis of traumatic tricuspid reg...

Repair of Tricuspid Insufficiency Following Blunt Trauma Chest - A Case Report and Review of Literature

Heart valve injuries due to non-penetrating blunt thoracic trauma are rare. Isolated tricuspid incompetence due to detachment of a leaflet from the annulus after blunt trauma is uncommon. Young patients may tolerate chronic tricuspid regurgitation (TR), and can be undiagnosed for years until the right ventricular failure occurs. We report the case of a young adult male who sustained blunt chest...

Traumatic avulsion of the tricuspid valve after gas bottle explosion

UNLABELLED SummaryWe present a very rare example of chronic right heart failure caused by torrent tricuspid regurgitation. Massive right heart dilatation and severe tricuspid regurgitation due to avulsion of the tricuspid valve apparatus occurred as a result of a blunt chest trauma following the explosion of a gas bottle 20 years before admission, when the patient was a young man in Vietnam. Af...

Late Simultaneous Presentation of Left Ventricular Pseudoaneurysm and Tricuspid Regurgitation after Blunt Chest Trauma

A 32-yr-old man developed progressive exertional dyspnea 4 yr after blunt chest trauma due to an automobile accident. Two-dimensional echocardiography and computed-tomographic coronary angiography demonstrated a large pseudoaneurysm of the left ventricle and severe tricuspid regurgitation. The patient underwent successful surgical exclusion of the pseudoaneurysm by endoaneurysmal patch closure ...

Surgery for severe tricuspid valve regurgitation following blunt thoracic trauma

Background Heart valve injuries due to non-penetrating blunt thoracic trauma are rare with aortic valve being the most vulnerable. Tricuspid valve injury resulting in severe regurgitation is unusual after blunt chest trauma. Two major issues for the management of traumatic tricuspid regurgitation are timing and type of the operation. Valve repair is naturally the first choice but valve replacem...
